This isn’t a compilation of other people’s reviews of gardening books, like other lists you may come across online. I’m pretty obsessed with gardening books and have read hundreds of them. I own and have read and used all the books on this list. And. The book is written more like a non-fiction paperback novel than a detailed “how to” gardening book.

If you read one gardening book, then this should probably be it. Christopher Lloyd is best known as the creator of the mesmerizing gardens at Great Dixter,where he was born inbut he was a prolific writer : Clare Coulson.

I find myself turning to this book regularly. Like Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, which I pull out every time I feel the need for a simpler life, these books sustain me through challenging times, garden-related or otherwise; they have all the answers to my planting quandaries and also allow me to “be” in my garden.
Most gardening books are not written for me, with their immense garden designs and overcomplicated plans, but Gardening Like a Ninja is definitely my speed.
